Seek and ye shall find!

If you have ever lost your wallet then you know how frustrating the process is as you try to locate it. Your wallet is something that contains information on your identity and other valuable items that you usually have in your possession at all times. So when you sudden;y lose your wallet, it feels like you lost your identity because everything that identified you as a person was probably in that wallet. You can still replace everything but the process to do so is very frustrating and cumbersome.

Seeking Jesus is like searching for your identity because only when you find Jesus do you find your own identity. Until then your identity was tied to everything in this world. Matthew 13:45-46 says “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant in search of fine pearls. When he found one priceless pearl, he went and sold everything he had, and bought it.” When you seek God with all your heart you will find out that that relationship is more precious than anything else you can find in this world. In Christ, you find your identity, your purpose, and your everything, so nothing in this world is more precious to you any more than Christ.

Jesus himself said in Matthew 6:33 “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” Jesus said this after saying not to worry in Matthew 6:31-32, “So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them.” Jesus here clearly says that seeking the kingdom of God is more important than seeking the things in this world that God will provide anyways if we only seek him.

So how does one Seek Jesus? Jesus explains this again in Matthew 7:7 “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.” The key to seeking Jesus and finding him is to seek him with all your heart. If you keep praying to Jesus and keep going to him every chance you get to confide in him then you are seeking God. Psalm 9:10 says “Those who know your name trust in you, for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.” It is hard to keep going to Jesus with all the worries and trials you face in this world but that is exactly what we need to do. We need to go to Jesus every chance we get cause seeking him is the only way to maintain our relationship with God. Hebrews 12:2 says “Let us fix our eyes on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy set before him endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.” Jesus died on the cross so those who are lost and in need may seek him. So never stop seeking him in your life
