How many times have you gone into a store and seen products advertised with the tagline “buy 1 get 1 free”? A lot of us get sucked into buying these products thinking, of course, we are getting a great deal. Now, what if you walked into the store and someone else had already paid for the product that you wanted to buy? That is an even better deal for you. The product had a cost attached to it but since someone had paid the price on your behalf, it became free for you.
I bring up this example because it is similar to what Jesus did for us on the cross. We all had a price to pay for our sins. But Jesus paid the price on our behalf by dying on the cross for our sins. Salvation became free for everyone because it was bought with a price, “The blood of Jesus Christ”
All the religions of this world will give you many different ways to attain salvation. It usually involves doing something in return for salvation. If we are all part of a single human race then why do we have different paths to salvation? How do we know which path is the right path? Shouldn’t there be a way that works for everyone regardless of their religion? I am not going to tell you which path to choose but I can tell you about a path to salvation that actually works. It is the only path that is available for all of mankind that is guaranteed to work and that path is through Jesus Christ.
First, let us take a look at the definition of salvation to understand why we need salvation. The dictionary defines salvation as deliverance from sin and its consequences. The consequences of sin are death and separation from God. Romans 6:23 says “For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord. “We are all guilty of sin because we have all broken God’s laws in some way or the other. Since we have all sinned against God we are in need of Salvation. The bible tells us that there is no one on Earth without sin. Romans 3:23 says “For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God”. It doesn’t say that only Christians have sinned. It says all have sinned.
It is only by the grace of God and his love for us that we are given a chance to receive salvation. Deliverance from our sins is only through Jesus Christ. It is given to us freely because on our own we cannot attain salvation. Ephesians 2:8-9 says “For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”
We can never attain salvation through our religion or by doing good works. It is not possible for mankind to do anything to save themselves from the sin they committed against God. The sin that you committed against God is forever and the only way to escape the judgment for your sins is through Jesus Christ.
No one can force salvation upon you. If you want to be saved from your sins then all you have to do is accept Jesus Christ. It is a choice that our God has given freely to everyone. Romans 10:9 says “Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.” Salvation has always been free through Jesus Christ. The only question is do you want it?
