thirsty

Are you thirsty?

I remember a time at work when I was feeling really thirsty and I went looking for water. The vending machine had run out of bottled water, so I went looking to see who had a bottle of water that I could drink. I found out that my boss had a big stash of bottled water in her office and so I went over and asked her, “May I borrow one of your water bottles”? She smiled at me and said,” You don’t have to borrow my water, you can keep it, and please don’t return it.” I realized what I had said before and I replied, “Did I say borrow? sorry, I meant can I take one?” We both ended up having a good laugh over what happened.

There is a story in the bible about a Samaritan woman who went looking for water and found Jesus instead. This is from John 4:4-14. When the Samaritan woman came to draw water, Jesus said to her, “Will you give me a drink? The Samaritan woman said to him, “You are a Jew and I am a Samaritan woman. How can you ask me for a drink?” (For Jews do not associate with Samaritans). Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God and who it is that asks you for a drink, you would have asked him and he would have given you living water.”

“Sir,” the woman said, “you have nothing to draw with and the well is deep. Where can you get this living water? Jesus answered, “Everyone who drinks this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks the water I give them will never thirst. Indeed, the water I give them will become in them a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

How many times do we feel thirsty in our spirit, in this dry and barren world? How many times do we try to drink from the water that this world has to offer? but it never seems to quench our thirst? Our inner soul, it seems is never satisfied with the things of this world. Could it be that we are just looking for the wrong type of water? Jesus offers us a different kind of water, “The Living Water”. He offers us himself to quench our thirst and satisfy the needs of our souls.

Are you thirsty? It might be time to give “The Living Water”  a.k.a “Jesus Christ” a try.
