Christ the cornerstone

The cornerstone is the first stone that is set in the construction of a traditional masonry foundation. All other stones will be set in reference to this stone. The way the cornerstone stone is set up is the key as it determines the position of the entire structure. The bible talks about the cornerstone in the old testament. The bible says in Psalm 118:22 “The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone.” This is a prophetic mention about Jesus Christ who ends us being the stone that is rejected when He is crucified on the cross by his own people who refused to believe that He was their messiah.

In the New Testament, we see Jesus call himself the cornerstone. In Matthew 21:42 Jesus said to them, “Have you never read in the Scriptures: The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone. This was the Lord’s doing, And it is marvelous in our eyes?” Jesus believed himself to fulfill the prophecy of the cornerstone that was rejected by his people. The builders were the Jewish leaders and other non-believers who refused to accept the fact that Jesus was their Messiah. The Stone (Jesus Christ) which they rejected as being of any significance, became the chief cornerstone and the foundation of our salvation and faith. Christ the rejected cornerstone now sits on the throne at God’s right hand.

The bible says in 1 Peter 2:7, “Therefore, to you who believe, He is precious; but to those who are disobedient, The stone which the builders rejected Has become the chief cornerstone.” This is the truth whether the world believes in Jesus Christ or not. He is the cornerstone of the building that we are all a part of when we accept him. He is the foundation of our faith. Everything in our life is built around Jesus Christ the cornerstone. To those who reject him, he is the chief cornerstone that they did not accept. Psalm 127:1 says that Unless the Lord builds the house, They labor in vain who build it.” Unless Christ is the cornerstone of the house anything we build will be in vain.

Ephesians 2:20-22 says, “having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone,  in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit. The world will always reject Jesus Christ as being the savior but for those who accept him. He is our foundation, our rock, and the cornerstone that we stand upon. He is not just the cornerstone of our entire life but He is also the only way out. He is our savior and redeemer and He is the only one who can save us from our sins.
