The dictionary defines hope as a ‘feeling of expectation and desire for a certain thing to happen’. In the secular world hope is something that people hold on to with the expectation that something good will happen. The Bible’s definition of hope is completely different. Psalm 33:20 says “We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield.” According to the Bible, we put our hope in God and hope is not a feeling of expectation but hope is God himself.
Romans 15:13 says “May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” The Bible says that our God is a God of Hope and nothing is more true than that statement. If there was ever any hope for all of humanity then it is through Jesus Christ. 1 Peter 1:3 says “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy, he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” Christ came so that all of us can have hope in this world. He died on the cross for that very reason to give hope to the hopeless. Hope without God is not really hope at all it is just a feeling.
If you are feeling hopeless today then just remember the entire Bible is here for one reason to give you hope. Romans 15:4 says “For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through the endurance taught in the Scriptures and the encouragement they provide we might have hope.” This verse makes it very clear that the Bible is there for one purpose to give us hope. Jesus came so that he can provide us hope. The Bible was written so that we can be given hope. God is in the business of providing hope so if you are looking for hope and you ended up finding Jesus instead then you just found the source of all hope in this world.
The Bible says that the eyes of the Lord are on those who put their hope in him. Psalm 33:18 says “But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love” If we put our hope in God and trust in him then God has the power to redeem us from whatever situation we might be in. He can heal you and restore you and rescue you from all perils. He has given us hope for a reason so that we can put our hope in him. So put your hope in God and trust in him, pray to him and worship him and you will see the God of Hope working in your life.
