The importance of reading our Bible!

Anytime we buy an electronic product at the store it usually comes with a manual. The manual is there to tell us how to use and operate the product. A well-written product manual will contain detailed instructions on how to operate the product and also a troubleshooting guide on common issues you might face with the product. You are free to use the product without the instruction manual but it is still available for you to refer to when in doubt about the product.

The Bible is the written instruction manual for all Christians. The Bible is the one-stop troubleshooting guide for everything we need to know to live our life here on Earth according to the will of God. It contains everything we need to know to deal with situations in our life according to the will of God. 2 Timothy 3:16-17 says “All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,  so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.” According to this verse the Bible is used to train a Christian on the ways of God.

The Bible has pretty much everything you need to know about life here on Earth and God’s amazing plan for the salvation of mankind through Jesus Christ. Do you have a question about something you are facing in your life? then open the Bible, the Bible already has an answer for it. Are you feeling down and out, open the Bible, the bible has the most encouraging verses ever written down on the face of the planet. Looking for answers about the origin of our world and how all this is going to End? open the Bible it is covered in Genesis and Revelation. Do you have questions about your purpose in life? questions about God? questions about morality? the law? forgivness? sin? open the Bible, it is all covered in detail there.

Romans 15:4 says “For whatever was written in the past was written for our instruction, so that we may have hope through endurance and through the encouragement from the Scripture.” The Bible was written not only for instruction but also to give us encouragement and hope when we really need it. How many times have you felt down and out and then opened your Bible only to find a word of encouragement or sometimes even the word of God himself? God talks to us through the Bible and that is why it is very important to read the Bible on a regular basis.

Hebrews 4:12 says “For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.” The Bible has a way to penetrate our hearts and talk to us on a spiritual level more than any other book on the planet. The very purpose of the Bible is to do just that. God inspired the Bible to be written down for this very reason. It is God’s gift to humanity so we may all know the truth.

If you are not convinced by now that you need to read the Bible regularly then perhaps this one reason will seal the deal. This is what Jesus said in Matthew 4:4 “But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’” Jesus is literally quoting scripture from the Old Testament when he was tempted by the Devil and tells him that we need the word of God to live. What better place to find the word of God than in the Bible which is the written word of God? We need to read the Bible in order to survive just like we need food to survive. So no matter how lazy we feel or how many distractions we have in our life as Christians we need to make time to read the Bible since without it we basically cannot survive in this world.
